Late Breaking Poster Abstracts

31 March – 15 April

The SER2021 Organizing Committee is inviting abstracts for late-breaking poster presentations for the 9th World Conference on Ecological Restoration. We welcome abstracts for posters addressing issues related to ecological restoration science, practice, or policy, including the social, cultural, and economic aspects of restoration. All abstracts must be submitted through the online form below by 15 April 2021. Early submissions are highly encouraged, and reviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis, with acceptances issued throughout the submission period.

1.  Before You Begin

All abstracts must be submitted through the online form below.

Attendees are limited to one contributed poster per person. Please consider this before submitting it if you already have an accepted poster. There is no limit to the number of abstracts in which you can be named as a co-author.

English is the default language for the conference. Written content (abstracts, slides, and posters) needs to be in English, and presenters should be able to participate in an English-based live discussion (please contact the Program Committee if this will be an undue burden). However, presenters may choose to give their presentation in a language other than English as long as they include English subtitles with their talk.

All presenters will be required to register for the conference by 10 May 2021. Presenters who do not register by this date will not be included in the conference program. We will issue acceptance notices as soon as possible following the submission of your abstract so you can proceed with registering. Presenters will need to register for the entire conference, as one-day rates will not be available.

2.  Presentation Formats

We are only accepting abstracts for poster presentations at this time.

Poster presentation – Posters will be displayed online. Authors will have the option to submit a short (<3 minute) video or audio file explaining the poster and discussing their work; all poster authors will have a chance for text discussion with conference attendees.

3.  Preparing Your Abstract
Please take note of the following guidelines as you prepare your abstract:

  • All abstracts must be submitted in English.
  • Submit a one page PDF based on the SER 2021 Abstract Template
  • Abstracts must be directly relevant to the field of restoration and should ideally emphasize new research results, cutting-edge developments, or novel perspectives.
  • Abstracts should be developed with an international audience in mind. You should provide a geographic context for the work being presented and consider how your work applies more broadly to researchers, practitioners, policymakers, etc. in other regions.
  • Abstracts will be limited to a maximum of 250 words. They should clearly present a concise statement of the topic or issue to be discussed, the question or objective underlying the work that will be presented, and a summary of methods, key findings, and conclusions.
  • All authors named in the abstract should be listed in the order you would like them to appear in the conference program.
  • For contributed abstracts, we will ask you to indicate a thematic series from this list that most closely relates to your presentation. Please note, however, that the Program Committee may ultimately choose a different thematic series for your presentation.

4.  Evaluation Process
The Program Committee will review abstracts and issue acceptances on a rolling basis throughout the submission period. Abstracts will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific and technical merit, with emphasis on new research results, cutting-edge developments, or novel perspectives.
  • Clear relevance to the field of ecological restoration, with implications for restoration science, practice, policy, education, business, finance, etc.
  • Broad applicability, with emphasis on linking lessons and insights from specific projects to broader issues and trends.
  • Submission of a well-written abstract that clearly states the topic or issue to be discussed and summarizes major findings and conclusions.

For each abstract, there are three possible outcomes of the review:

  • Accepted: The abstract clearly meets the criteria outlined above and does not require any edits or revisions.
  • Needs correction: The abstract needs revisions and will be re-evaluated following the submission of an updated version.
  • Rejected: The abstract clearly fails to meet the criteria outlined above, as determined by the SER2021 Program Committee, and is not suitable for presentation during the conference.

5.  After Your Abstract is Accepted

Registration: As noted above, all presenters are required to register for the conference by 10 March 2021. Presenters who do not register by this date risk having their presentation excluded from the conference program.

Scheduling: All posters will be available as on-demand talks in advance of the conference.

Presentation specs: We will post detailed specifications on the conference website prior to the deadline for submitting posters (authors will also be notified by email).

6.  Cancellation Policy

Please do not submit an abstract unless you are committed to participating in the conference. Cancellations impose a serious burden and negatively impact the overall quality of the conference program. We ask that speakers try to submit their poster even if they will be unable to participate in discussions during the main conference days. If extenuating circumstances force you to cancel your participation, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible at
