Field Trip Fridays

Field trips to local restoration sites are one of the highlights of our world conferences. They are a fantastic way to see restoration projects first-hand and to be re-inspired about restoration practice.

One of the unexpected benefits of the shift to a virtual conference is that we can offer field trips from all over the world. Everyone registered for SER2021 can attend as many field trips as you choose (or watch them later on-demand), to experience and learn from a vast range of restoration contexts, techniques, and outcomes.

From urban landscapes to coral reefs, from the arctic tundra to the Brazilian rainforests, our interactive, virtual field trips will feature restoration practice on-the-ground and in-the-water.  Come explore and learn about the diverse ways in which our ecosystems are being restored on every continent.

What are virtual field trips and how will they work?

"Field Trip Fridays" will run from May 7 through June 18. Hosts will mix pre-recorded footage of their site with live discussions of the project, its effectiveness, innovations, challenges, and ambitions. Field trips are intended to be highly interactive and to mimic, as much as possible, the type of field-based excursions that we host at our in-person conferences.

Each Friday over the course of five weeks we will offer several field trips, in two different time slots to accommodate multiple time zones. The hosts and field experts will facilitate live discussions to answer your questions interspersed with video footage from the field. Our goal is to make these virtual field trips as close to the real thing as we can - highly interactive and focused on applied restoration in the field.

How do I sign up for field trips I’m interested in?

We’ll share a schedule for Field Trip Fridays on the SER2021 website by mid-April. Registered conference delegates will be able to access the conference virtual events portal by the end of April to build their schedule and identify the trips they are interested in participating in live.

We will be running field trips in two different time slots to ensure that no matter where you're located, you'll be able to join some of these inspiring presentations.

And if you miss one, all field trips will be recorded and available on-demand for all conference registrants!
