A New Global Trajectory: Catalyzing Change Through the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration
The 9th World Conference on Ecological Restoration will focus on innovative and creative approaches to achieving the promise of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The conference theme - A New Global Trajectory - encourages us to think broadly about the pathways we can take forward, the partnerships that will make this change possible, and the tools we have for success.
As SER2021 goes virtual, there has never been a better time to bring together the international ecological restoration community - practitioners, researchers, policy makers, students, investors, artists, passionate supporters, land managers, problem solvers - to begin the process of global change.
The conference will be focused on six key themes:
1. Advancing the science and practice of restoration
2. Restoration as a nature-based solution
3. Multi-disciplinary and cross-sectoral collaborations
4. Scaling up, restoring and adapting to limitations
5. Empowering and engaging local communities
6. Planning, policy and economics
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a joint initiative from the UN Environment Program (UNEP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) calling for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world for the benefits of people and nature. The Decade runs from 2021 – 2030, giving us ten years to build a global restoration movement and a sustainable future. Learn more at www.decadeonrestoration.org.
